Unruly scene at DUSU office over budget
NEW DELHI: In yet another episode of political rivalry between NSUI and ABVP, Delhi University Student Union's (DUSU) office witnessed a major furore on Wednesday morning when both the parties had a difference of opinion during the passing of the union's budget.
When verbal clash bore no results, chairs were flung at each other and finally police had to interfere.
1x1 polls
DUSU's Rs 3,60,000-budget was scheduled to be voted on Wednesday morning at the DUSU office conference hall.
Among the people present for the voting were four DUSU office bearers, four NSUI's executive councillors (EC) and seven ABVP's executive councillors. NSUI had a majority of eight candidates over ABVP's seven. The drama started when just before the voting ABVP said they wanted an closed ballot while NSUI wanted an open ballot.
According to ABVP's EC, Rahul Khatna: "We wanted it to be a closed ballot because that's how it has been done for years. We even wanted a report on last years budget but since we were less in number, NSUI easily did what they wanted."
Khatna claimed there was no voting done whatsoever and budget was just passed by the NSUI candidates sighing it. According to Ragini Nayak, DUSU president: "In DU constitution there is no law that says that there should be a closed ballot. It is always done as per the majority demand and since majority was ours we decided to have an open ballot."
She added: "From the beginning ABVP wanted to create a drama and they decided to create that over an irrelevant issue. When they did not get things their way they started breaking the furniture. At last police had to intervene to bring the situation under control."

Apart from this another issue was the number of ABVP ECs present. Although ABVP claimed they have nine ECs in the university only seven were present. According to ABVP's Gaurav Khari: "Two of our ECs were threatened not to come so the number was just seven."
ABVP ECs were taken away by the police and were later released. Although the budget is passed, ABVP still claimed that it was done without allowing the participation of the opposition.
